Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have roles in The Expendables 2

Now this is what we're talking about. Sylvester Stallone, one of the biggest action stars in the history of, is bringing arguably the two other biggest action stars to The Expendables 2:Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. 

Deadline reports that the two icons "have just closed deals to take 'substantial' roles in The Expendables 2, alongside Sylvester Stallone." 


Of course, we saw both actors in the first film, but only in what amounted to disappointing cameos that were blown in the marketing for the picture anyway. But now it sounds like we're going to really get the trio in action together. Filming begins in October.

Rhys Ifans joining Bond 23

The Telegraph claims Welsh actor Rhys Ifans is joining the cast of the Sam Mendes-directed James Bond sequel. The film is being distributed by Columbia Pictures, the studio behind Ifans's next two releases, Roland Emmerich's Anonymous and The Amazing Spider-Man (where he plays the Lizard).

The paper didn't say who Ifans would play, but if Naomie Harris is indeed the new Miss Moneypenny then we think Ifans would make for a great Q.

The Telegraph's source adds that Bond 23 will be shot largely in South Africa.

Ifans previously played Daniel Craig's stalker in Enduring Love, where he shared a kiss with the future 007. Ifans' other credits include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pirate Radio, Notting Hill and Little Nicky.

Star Wars Episode 1 could be the only 3D converted film

Psyched at the prospect of seeing the Star Wars converted to 3D for a big screen re-release? Well, if you are then you better hope Lucasfilm's master plan works because otherwise we might just get one of them -- and not the one that anybody likely wants.

Here's what CzechPosition.com learned about the conversions during an interview with producer Rick McCallum: "'We're doing 3D versions of all six films, one a year, starting in February of next year. We start with [episode] one and go all the way through six, totally chronological,' he said. But the first one is a somewhat of a test. 'One a year, if they work. If they don't, then there will be just one [episode converted to 3D].'"

That's right. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D could be the only conversion fans get should their "test" fail.

Russell Crowe in negotiations to be Jor-El in Superman Reboot

Variety reports that Oscar winner Russell Crowe is in negotiations to portray Superman's (Henry Cavill) Kryptonian father in the Zack Snyder-directed reboot. The trade adds that Warner Bros. refused comment on the report.

Kevin Costner will portray Supes' earthly dad Jonathan Kent opposite Diane Lane as his wife, Martha. Amy Adams will play Lois Lane and Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod. No word yet on who will play Perry White and Jimmy Olsen.

"With production set to start next month, Jor-El was one of the last roles to cast, though they also are looking for a big name to play Superman's biological mother [Lara]," according to Variety.

James Cameron, Sam Worthington and Will Staples teaming up for MYTH

James Cameron is planning to team with Will Staples, a writer from the Call of Duty games, for a "sci-fi action project." They'll be joined by Cameron's Avatar star Sam Worthington and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Heat Vision reports that 20th Century Fox is in early talks with Staples to acquire his pitch, which is called Myth. Cameron is already attached to executive-produce and di Bonaventura and Worthington are attached as producers. 

Cameron won't direct the film -- he's spending the next 15 years making Avatar sequels at the Earth's core, don't you know? -- and at this point in the proceedings Worthington won't star either. Might depend on how Clash of the Titans 2 turns out!

"Nothing is known about Myth other than it's big, it's sci-fi, and it's got lots of action," says HV.
 

Fast and Furious 6 is coming in 2013

Seeing as Fast Five has made $585.5 million worldwide and counting, it's no big surprise that Universal Pictures wants to make another installment of its The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Coming Soon snapped a photo of advertising art for Fast & Furious 6 at the Licensing International Expo, which is now underway in Las Vegas.

The banner reveals that the film is slated for a 2013 release.

No word yet on who will direct, but stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker have expressed their desire to return for another ride.

Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis could reteam for Major Matt Mason

Tom Hanks still intends on turning the 1960s Mattel toy Major Matt Mason into a live-action feature film -- and in 3D at that -- and is trying to get his pal Robert Zemeckis onboard to direct.

The Hollywood Reporter says Hanks' production company Playtone is in talks with Zemeckis -- who directed Hanks in Forrest Gump, The Polar Express and Cast Away -- to direct Major Matt Mason.

The project, scripted by Hansk and Graham Yost (a scribe on the Hanks-produced From the Earth to the Moon, Band of Brothers), is reportedly budgeted at over $100 million. 

Matt Mason and his "Men in Space" lived in a space station and worked on the moon, where they often encounter the giant alien Captain Lazer. 

Shia Labeouf has announced he won't be back for another Transformers.

In a new interview, Shia LaBeouf has stated what we all pretty much knew anyway: He's done with Transformers.

MTV's inestimable Kara Warner has the report on Bumblebee's best pal, who has said that once Transformers: Dark of the Moon is released this summer, he's finished with the giant robots in disguise.

"I'm not coming back to do another one," says the actor. "I don't think [director Michael Bay] will either. It still is a hot property, I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they'll reboot it at some point with someone else." 

Not that it will be easy to see a young up-and-comer hanging with the Autobots.

"You have an onus in it. I'll enjoy it. I'll go [see it] opening night, I'll be there. But there is a disconnect," continues LaBeouf, before joking that, "It's mine, dude. … It's mine."

He's also high on Dark of the Moon, saying it's the best of the three Transformers films.

"It's the best action, in terms of the geography," he says. "In the second one, you get confused as to who's fighting who and where you are, because it's such a big landscape. This one is Black Hawk Down-ish. It's one location, and the geography is simple to understand. … [Bay] did the 3D in a different way than anyone has ever done it before. James Cameron has seen the movie; he said it's the best 3D since Avatar, so there's all that. Also, this is our best story. It's the most solid screenplay we've had since we started."

Plus, John Malkovich is in it. So it's gotta be good, right? 

Bill Nighy will be joining the Total Recall remake

Bill Nighy will reunite with his Underworld director Len Wiseman and co-star Kate Beckinsale in the remake of Total Recall.

Colin Farrell leads the cast of the now Mars-less Recall redo, which also stars Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Nighy will play Quatto, the leader of the resistance."

Nighy will also be seen in the forthcoming Jack the Giant Killer and Wrath of the Titans.

Original Cast return for American Reunion...as well as some added extras

30 Rock's resident beauty Katrina Bowden has joined the cast of American Reunion, the fourth feature film installment in Universal's American Pie franchise.

Variety reports that Bowden "will play [Chris] Klein's girlfriend who is an L.A. party girl type." Bowden was also recently cast in the horror sequel, Piranha 3DD.

The film stars Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Seann William Scott, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jennifer Coolidge and Eugene Levy. Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg scripted and will direct. Here's the official plot synopsis: 

"In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago are returning to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn't and that time and distance can't break the bonds of friendship.

It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler's mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend." 

Sony acquires Bigelow's Osama Movie

Columbia Pictures has acquired United States distribution rights to the forthcoming motion picture from Oscar winners Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, director and screenwriter, respectively, of the Best Picture-winning film The Hurt Locker, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The untitled film focuses on the black ops mission to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, which culminated in his death earlier this month during a high-stakes raid on his compound in Pakistan. Bigelow and Boal have been developing the project since 2008 and plan to incorporate recent events into the film.

Boal and Bigelow will produce the project, along with Annapurna Pictures' Megan Ellison, and executive producer, Greg Shapiro, with production slated to commence in the late summer of 2011. The film will be released in the United States in the 4th quarter of 2012.

Commenting on the announcement, Pascal said, "With the death of Osama bin Laden, this film could not be more relevant. Kathryn and Mark have an outstanding perspective on the team that was hunting the most wanted man in the world. . Mark is second to none as an investigative journalist, and Kathryn will bring the same kind of compelling authenticity and urgency that distinguished The Hurt Locker and made that film so memorable and special."

Third Riddick Movie in the Works

Vin Diesel loves a bit of social networking, and this week he's been talking up plans to shoot a third Riddick film this summer.

Here's what he posted on Facebook about the proposed follow-up to Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.

"DT [David Twohy] the writer/director just landed in New York with the good news. We can start filming this summer. However, there is a catch... in order for us to make a true R-rated film, I must work for scale upfront."

Then rather more cryptically he added "Money is always second to art, integrity and spirit... but the real issue is deeper. Can I suspend my life, to momentarily venture to that dark place... called Riddick."

He followed that post with an update revealing that he was meeting with Twohy to talk schedules and concept art.

So if Diesel can make a deal with the money-men, we could be seeing Riddick return for an ultra-violent flick in 2012.

Matt Reeves will direct a Frankenstein Movie

Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves has signed on to direct This Dark Endeavour, which reimagines the early years of Victor Frankenstein.

Based on a proposed series of novels by Kenneth Oppel - the first of which is due out this summer - the film will follow the brilliant young Frankenstein in search of the Elixir of Life to save his mortally ill twin brother Konrad.

According to Deadline, the movie has a screenplay by Mean Creek writer Jacob Aaron Estes, and is being produced by Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight Saga). Unsurprisingly this version of Frankenstein features a familiar love triangle between Victor, his friend Elizabeth, and Konrad.

Yesterday, it was announced that Peter Ackroyd's novel The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein - which explores the Victor's student days - was in the works at Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. And with Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein hopefully still in the works at Universal, there'll be no shortage of the mad scientist ahead.

No release dates or cast details have yet been announced.

Dark Knight Rises Adds two more to the cast

Variety reports that two actors with genre movie credentials have joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises in minor roles.

Two veterans of Apollo 13 have been cast in the film. Brett Cullen (who also played Johnny Blaze's dad in Ghost Rider and played Goodwin Stanhope on Lost) will play a judge in the Christopher Nolan-directed threequel, while Chris Ellis (Transformers, and the DC TV series Birds of Prey) has been cast as a priest.

The Dark Knight Rises is now filming in England. 

First Picture of Bane from Dark Knight Rises

The below picture of Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises was revealed today, following a series of viral stunts.

The hunt began on the film's official website, where a loop of chanting could be heard. The wave form of the chant was analysed to yield a hashtag, #TheFireRises. When someone tweeted using this hastag, their Twitter profile picture was added to a mosaic, slowly forming the picture of Bane below.

However, before the mosaic was finished, the completed picture was posted on facebook. 

And Bane looks more than a formidable opponent for Christian Bale's Batman.

While not grotesquely pumped as in the comics, Hardy's engorged muscles and muzzled face still retain iconic elements of the character combined with Nolan's moderating realism.

The Dark Knight Rises hits cinemas on July 20, 2012.

Freeman and Holm both playing Bilbo in The Hobbit

Martin Freeman won't be the only actor playing Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.

Director Peter Jackson posted on his Facebook page that Ian Holm, who played Bilbo in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, will reprise his role as the elderly Baggins in the two-part screen adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien classic.

The Hobbit is now filming in New Zealand, with Part 1 set for a late 2012 debut.

Kate Beckinsale Offered role in Total Recall Remake

Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the female leads in the Total Recall remake -- the Sharon Stone role, which is the juicer of the two in the original film if you ask me.

However, Deadline reports that Beckinsale, who is married to the remake's director Len Wiseman, hasn't yet accepted the gig. 

The other female lead is that of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin). Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are leading the race on that front, reportedly. Get your ass to Mars, ladies!

Superman Villian Announced

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced that Michael Shannon will star in the role of General Zod in director Zack Snyder's new Superman film, titled Man of Steel.

Snyder stated, "Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role."

As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent. 

Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Shannon was most recently seen in the award-winning HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire, from executive producer Martin Scorsese. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics', Take Shelter, from director/writer Jeff Nichols.

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Man of Steel will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. 

Deadpool gets a Director.

Tim Miller has worked as a visual effects artist on some big-budget films, including X-Men and X2. Now, according to Deadline, he'll step into the director's chair for X-Men Origins: Deadpool, based on the Marvel character last seen on screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds (who stars in the upcoming Green Lantern movie) is expected to reprise his role as Wade Wilson, a wisecracking mercenary with healing powers nicknamed "The Merc with a Mouth."

Unsurprisingly, Miller was not among those mentioned by comic creator Rob Liefeld when he listed his picks to direct the movie last December. Previously rumored helmers include Robert Rodriguez and Swedish commercial and music video director Adam Berg.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script, produced by Lauren Shuler Donner. There's no start date yet, but since Darren Aronofsky's departure from Wolverine has left that film without a director, Deadpool could be the next Marvel movie in the pipeline for Fox.

Johnny Depp May Cameo in 21 Jump Street Film

Johnny Depp is reportedly poised to cameo in 21 Jump Street, the show that made him a star, in Columbia's feature film version of the 1980s TV classic.

Deadline claims "plans are being made for him to set aside a day to shoot one, but I'm not sure what his role will be." Depp appeared on the series from 1987–1990 as Officer Tom Hanson, one of the youthful-looking cops sent undercover to bust criminals in high schools.

The site also claims James' brother Dave Franco has been cast as "Eric, the most popular kid in school, who also happens to be a raging drug dealer. Jonah Hill's narc character befriends him to infiltrate the cool kid crowd."

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter says comedic actor Rob Riggle is circling the role of "a member of D.A.D. -- Dads Against Drugs. -- who has a burn-marked face and is secretly the main drug supplier."

The Crow Remake has a new director.

Yo, the remake of The Crow is a go! Relativity Media has hired 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to direct a "re-invention" of the 1994 comic adaptation.

Variety reports that the plan is to get production going by this fall, though no talent is attached yet -- and that apparently includes a (gulp) writer: "Fresnadillo will collaboratively develop the screenplay once a writer is attached to adapt the script from James O'Barr's comic book series," says the trade. So no script, but a fall start date? O.K. then. 

The story will once again feature Eric Draven (played by the late Brandon Lee in the original film) as he is resurrected from the dead and becomes the avenging title character.

Previously, Blade director Stephen Norrington was attached to the project and Mark Wahlberg was rumored to be involved as well. 

William Fichtner joins Blomkamp's Elysium

District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has a great cast lined up for his top-secret film, Elysium, which now has an actor from The Dark Knight.

Variety reports that William Fichtner, the bank manager from The Dark Knight, is in final talks to star in Blomkamp's second feature film. Fichtner, who also appeared in Armageddon, Heat and FOX's Prison Break, will join Jodie Foster, Matt Damon and District 9's Sharlto Copley. 

We don't know who Fichtner is playing, or what Elysium is about. But here's what we do know: According to Variety, Elysium will be an R-rated sci-fi film, set 150 years in the future. It has social allegory elements akin to District 9, couching them in a "very violent, very original" story, according to the director himself.

We also know that Matt Damon will play an ex-con. We hope he plays an ex-con moonlighting as a mathematician janitor, who tips from Will Smith's Golf Whisperer. (Be here all week, folks. Try the veal.)

Bond 23 may shoot in South Africa?

James Bond is a well-known globe trotter, but there's one country he hasn't shot in yet: South Africa. That's reportedly about to change.

According to MI6, "Former England international cricketer Darren Gough spilled the beans as he sat next to (Bond 23 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson) during a first class Virgin flight to Johannesburg earlier today. Gough said that they were travelling to scout locations for the film. Whether their location work is based just in South Africa is unclear."

South Africa has been an oft-rumored possible location for a Bond film -- and has been a popular location for film productions in general -- due to the country's financial incentives.

Bond 23 begins filming this fall for a November 9, 2012 release.

Bill and Ted Will Party On. Sequel on the way.

There's been rumors of a new Bill and Ted sequel for years, but the chatter really heated up last autumn, when both Keanu Reeves (Ted) and Alex Winter (Bill) independently confirmed that a third film was on the way. Naturally, when MTV Movies Blog had a chance to interview Reeves again during the promotion of his new movie Henry's Crime they checked in with him on the script's progress.

"I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft," Reeves told MTV News "No pressure, guys!"

Reeves also confirmed that the new film is being written by original screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. He didn't reveal much about the story, except that it will tie into the ending of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, which fulfills the promise set up in the first film, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, that the music of their band, Wyld Stallyns, will bring about a utopian future.

"When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened," Reeves said. "And so they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back."

We have no idea how they'll deal with the actors' ages and the loss of the late George Carlin as Rufus, but it's still an idea that could be most excellent if done right.

Will there be a Grand Theft Auto Movie in the near future?

Rockstar Games' vice president of creative Dan Houser explains why the company has been reluctant to turn their hottest titles, such as Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, into feature films.

The Hollywood Reporter's interview with Houser was ostensibly about Rockstar's L.A. Noire recently being honored as an Official Selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, the first video game to ever be recognized by the festival. But when the chat turned to the broader topic of video game movies, Houser explained Rockstar's reasons for not embracing the idea of Hollywood adapting their games for the screen. 

"Virtually all movies made from games are awful, while many games made from movies are also pretty horrible. This will change, but with an ever more discerning audience, the goals of taking something from film-to-games or game-to-film have to be more than financial," said Houser. "If you feel the property has something about it that is universal or could work in another medium, and it is not simply about making easy money, then that is something worthwhile."

He added, "We have explored a lot of movie deals, but we have just chosen not to make a movie. We love movies, but we also love games and that is what we remain focused on. If we were to attempt to make a movie, we would like to make it ourselves, or at least work in collaboration with the best talent, so at least if it is bad, we can know we failed on our own terms. But doing that takes time, and making games properly takes a lot of time. So, we may make movies one day, with the right property and the right partnership, but we have not found the time to do that yet." 

Arnold Schwarzenegger in talks for Last Stand

It looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the big screen will not solely consist of Governator riffs.

MovieWeb and Slash Film are both reporting that The Ahnuld is in talks to headline The Last Stand, the English-language debut film for South Korean director Kim Ji-Woon (The Good, the Bad, the Weird).

This would mark Schwarzenegger's first live-action starring role since he was elected governor of California eight years ago. MW describes the film's plot as follows:

"The story will follow the exploits of a drug cartel leader who blasts his way out of a courtroom, steals a car, and heads towards the Mexican border. Arnold Schwarzenegger will play a sheriff with an inexperienced staff who becomes involved with trying to stop the cartel leader from entering Mexico after the two parties inadvertently cross paths."

Liam Neeson was originally going to play the sheriff before leaving the project earlier this year. 

Dark Knight Rises up with New Gotham City

There's a new Gotham City, Bat-fans. The Dark Knight Rises has finalized plans to shoot in Pittsburgh this summer.

In a statement to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, TDKR director Christopher Nolan said, "Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. ... We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman."

Meanwhile, Batman-on-Film came across a few more Bat-tidbits. First, Oscar winner Marion Cotillard appears to have confirmed her reported role in The Dark Knight Rises, informing The Independent, "I have a project for the summer. Different thing that I don't wanna talk about." Sounds pretty batty to us.

BoF also says Nolan is rumored to have scouted Kedleston Hall, a lavish mansion from the 1760s located in Derbyshire, England. Could this be the new Wayne Manor? We shall see.

The Dark Knight Rises begins filming in May.

Sean Hayes Starring in The Three Stooges

Will and Grace's Sean Hayes has joined the cast of the Farrelly's The Three Stooges.

According to both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Hayes is set to play Larry opposite Will Sasso as Curly in the Fox film.

The role of Moe remains officially uncast, but contenders have reportedly included Hank Azaria and Johnny Knoxville.

The Three Stooges will begin shooting soon.

Monsters University Release Date Pushed Back

You'll have to that much longer for Pixar's sequel to Monsters, Inc., as the release date has been pushed back.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the release date for Monsters University -- a Dan Scanlon-directed prequel to the 2001 hit which will recall how Sully and Mike Wazowski first met -- has been shifted from November 2012 to June 21, 2013.

Disney's animated feature Reboot Ralph will open instead now on November 2, 2012.

Underworld 4 Starts Filming

Production is underway in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the 4th installment in the highly successful Screen Gems/Lakeshore Entertainment Underworld franchise.

Underworld 4 brings a stunning new dimension to the epic battle between Vampires and Lycans, as the first film in the franchise to shoot in 3D.

Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

India Eisley (The Secret Life of an American Teenager) plays Eve, and Michael Ealy (Sleeper Cell) plays Detective Sebastian.

Underworld 4 is helmed by Swedish directors Mans Marlind & Bjorn Stein, who co-directed the 2009 thriller Shelter starring Julianne Moore and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Their feature credits also include the award-winning Swedish film Storm.

Producing are Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Len Wiseman and Richard Wright. The film's executive producers are David Kern, David Coatsworth, Henry Winterstern and Skip Williamson. The screenplay for Underworld 4 is by Len Wiseman, John Hlavin, and Allison Burnett.

The talented behind-the-scenes team includes cinematographer Scott Kevan, Genie award-winning production designer Claude Pare, Academy Award nominated costume designer Monique Prudhomme, and editor Jeff McEvoy.

Smiths and Shyamalan will team up for a Sci-Fi film

Jaden Smith is set to star opposite his father, Will Smith, for director M. Night Shyamalan in an untitled sci-fi adventure, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures.

Shyamalan and Will Smith will produce with James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Ken Stovitz, Smith's partners at Overbrook Entertainment. The screenplay is by Shyamalan and Gary Whitta.

Set 1,000 years into the future, a young boy navigates an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes.

Commenting on the announcement, Belgrad said, "Night is an outstanding filmmaker who has a tremendous vision for this science-fiction adventure story and we couldn't be more excited to be working again with Jaden after our experiences on The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid. We're thrilled to have the two of them together on this project."

Shyamalan added, "The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project."

Arnold Schwarzenegger Planning to do a 3D Governator Film

We already knew Arnold Schwarzenegger was planning a comic-book series called The Governator, and now he's revealed that a 3D feature film will also be produced based on the concept.

Deadline reports that the former governor of California is planning an entire multi-platform project around The Governator that will also include an animated TV series and some type of online programming.

The film will be completed in early 2013 and includes Stan Lee himself as a producer. That will follow a 52-episode animated series featuring the voice and image of Schwarzenegger -- "as a superhero bent on beating the bad guys and the forces of evil" -- that launches at the end of 2012. The comic series and online stuff will come first.

It's not clear at the moment what form this feature film will take, be it live-action, animated, etc. Probably animated, right? 

Jon Favreau's Hogan may return for Iron Man 3

While Jon Favreau was at WonderCon to talk about Cowboys & Aliens, one of the very first questions he got from the audience during the panel was about Iron Man 3. Favreau will not be directing the film, instead taking on Disney's Magic Kingdom, with Shane Black directing the next Iron Man film. But a fan asked Favreau if he still might return in an acting capacity to the series, in his role as Happy Hogan, even if it were a cameo.

Said Favreau, "Yeah, look. I love Shane Black. I'm not familiar with the work of the other writer that the just hired [Drew Pierce], but I'm really grateful for the opportunities that I had with Marvel." He said that having done great things together in their career, he and Marvel were now moving on.

But as for Iron Man 3, Favreau said, "I can't wait. I would do anything. I love that franchise and I love those guys."

So when it comes to Happy returning in Iron Man 3, we'll take that as a firm… maybe?

Iron Man 3 Gets a Writer

Marvel Studios has found their writer for Iron Man 3. Drew Pearce has been given the nod to pen the third entry in the comic-book studio's brightest star, helping to bring structure and balance to the chaotic early beginnings of the film's development.

Deadline has the exclusive scoop on these breaking developments, noting that the Robert Downey Jr. has been signed to reprise his title role. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black has been tapped to helm the piece, and now Pearce will be working on the script. Pearce was previously attached to projects such as Runaways, Marvel's pet project about the youngsters of super villains who use their parents' powers for the betterment of mankind.

The cast and crew of Iron Man 3 has yet to truly take flight, what with all of the other Marvel projects due, but it is also still quite a ways away, debuting in theaters over two years from now on May 3, 2013.

Bryan Cranston is Breaking Bad in the Total Recall Remake

The Total Recall remake now has a bad guy, and he's someone who is known to break bad...

Variety reports that, yes, Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is in talks to play the villain in the film. Colin Farrell is starring in the Columbia Pictures redux of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action classic.

That 1990 film featured Ronny Cox as the evil Vilos Cohaagen. Michael Ironside also played a not-so-nice guy named Richter who was in pursuit of Schwarzenegger's character Quaid (the real Quaid!).

Heat Vision reports that "The new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side. … Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai."
 

Star Wars Episode 1 3D Update

Bill Murray to portray Franklin Roosevelt

In what might be the most unorthodox case of casting in some time, funnyman Bill Murray has been cast as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Hyde Park on Hudson.

Roger Michell (Morning Glory) will direct the film, which is adapted from the 2009 radio play of the same name by Richard Nelson, who also penned the screenplay adaptation. Production will reportedly begin in July.

"The project, set up at Focus Features and the UK's Film4, recounts the quasi-incestuous love affair between the president and his distant cousin, Margaret Stuckley, and takes place on the June 1939 weekend that the British King and Queen visited Roosevelt at his upstate New York cottage, in the first-ever visit to America by a member of the United Kingdom monarchy," according to Vulture.

This means we'll have to wait that much longer for Ghostbusters 3, assuming of course that Murray's even gotten around to reading the script yet. 

Madagascar Penguins Returning for Third Installment and Own Feature

In an animated film franchise with a cast that includes Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen, the surprising breakout stars have turned out to be four paramilitary penguins brought to life by career voice actors you've probably never heard of.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico are getting their own feature, to be penned by Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, the writers behind Megamind.

The penguins have previously been featured in the animated short "The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper," which appeared on the Madagascar Blu-ray, and a popular CGI-animated TV show on Nickelodeon, now in its second season.

The third installment in the Madagascar feature franchise is set to open in theaters in 2012. So far there is no director or voice talent attached.

Hawkeye to make a cameo in Thor

You won't have to wait until 2012's The Avengers to see Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.

Cinema Blend was at CinemaCon where roughly 20 minutes of footage from the upcoming Thor movie was screened that showed the Marvel archer in action.

"The scene we saw featured Renner as Hawkeye, working with the infamous Agent Coulson, played as he was in the Iron Man movies, by Clark Gregg," according to the site.

"The scene features Hawkeye using his famous bow and arrow and he has multiple lines, so while we're talking about something a little more than a momentary cameo, there's no way to know if his involvement will go any further than that one scene."

The Wolverine Will Go On Without Aronofsky

The show must go on for The Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman spoke with Entertainment Weekly at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where he reaffirmed his commitment to making the Marvel spin-off/prequel sequel despite the recent departure of director Darren Aronofsky due to personal issues.

"So now we're out looking for a director," said Jackman. "We were pretty much ready to go. The script is fantastic — the best we've ever had, which is why it attracted Darren in the first place. His personal situation precludes him from doing it now, and I feel for him. But now we need to find a director."

Jackman vowed that he and the studio are "not going to settle. We're going to find a director as good as Darren, if not better. Well, as good." He stressed that everyone remains committed to making the movie happen ... someday.

Jack Ryan Reboot Delayed. Star Trek Sequel Warp Speed Ahead.

Paramount Pictures has opted to push back its plans to shoot Moscow, the big screen relaunch of its Jack Ryan franchise set to star Chris Pine as the Tom Clancy creation, in favor of putting Star Trek 2, also starring Pine, on the fast track for a fall shoot.

Citing script delays on the Jack Ryan reboot -- which saw its screenwriter, Steven Zaillian, back out in the last few weeks -- Deadline reports that the Trek sequel will begin filming this fall in order to make its previously announced June 29, 2012 release date. That's a breakneck schedule worthy of X-Men: First Class!

The site adds that Paramount is still waiting for J.J. Abrams to decide whether or not he'll return to direct Trek 2.

As for Jack Ryan's return, Deadline says the "launching point of the film is one that gets a mention in Clancy's The Hunt for Red October, in the book and the original film that starred Alec Baldwin. It has to do with a terrifying helicopter crash that nearly killed Ryan when he was a 23-year old platoon leader in the US Marines. He was the only member of the platoon to survive. Insiders tell me that an okay version of Ryan could have been put into production this year, but the priority is more about launching a new franchise then filling a release slot."

Justice League Movie is Now Happening

Warner Bros. is seems to be looking at the way Marvel is ramping up to The Avengers by building an on-screen universe through standalone movies starring superheroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor.

Jeff Robinov, president of the Warner Bros. motion picture group, sat down with the Los Angeles Times and revealed that WB wants a Justice League movie to hit theatres by 2013. He also said that the studio plans to "reinvent" Batman following the events Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

The long-in-development Justice League movie is a priotity for the studio, with a new script currently in development. George Miller was set to direct a JL movie in 2008, but that project stalled due to several factors, one being studio's concerns over "presenting a competing (and conflicting) version of Batman while director Christopher Nolan's films were breaking box office records."

So what is Batman's future? Nolan's departure from the series after Dark Knight Rises presents a challenge that Robinov has a plan for. "We have the third Batman, but then we'll have to reinvent Batman," Robinov said.

"Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is."

The studio is also reviving Flash and Wonder Woman projects, with the intention of spinning them off after the Justice League film. Robinov doesn't see any conflict between the Wonder Woman film and a potential big-screen version, pointing to the fact that Superman Returns came out while Smallville was on the air.

So the JLA will hit theatres (fingers crossed) in 2013. And Batman will be reinvented following TDKR with Nolan and his wife still overseeing that project. Guys, we know you have opinions about this. Unleash your all-caps fury on the Comments section! 

Amy Adams will play Lois Lane in Superman Reboot

Oscar nominee Amy Adams has been cast as Lois Lane in the Superman reboot.

The film's director, Zack Snyder, revealed to the Los Angeles Times that Adams received the news Sunday. After meeting with Adams, it was clear to the filmmaker that the Enchanted and The Fighter actress was "perfect" for the role of the dogged Daily Planet reporter and Man of Steel's love interest.

"It goes back to what I've said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What's important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today's audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance]," said Snyder.

Adams joins a cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. Viggo Mortensen is said to be circling the role of General Zod.

Mila Kunis and James Franco Join The Wizard of Oz prequel

Mila Kunis, hot off of the Oscar-winning Black Swan (and with That '70s Show nothing but a distant memory), is now confirmed to be starring in Disney's Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz, the Great and Powerful.

James Franco stars as the Wizard… well, before he actually became the wizard.

Variety has the report. Kunis will play Theodora, the youngest sister of three witches who "starts out as a good witch, alongside her beautiful sister Glinda, but after her sexual advances are jilted by Franco's salesman, she's convinced by Evanora to switch sides and help her older sister rule Oz."

Sam Raimi will direct the film, which positions Franco's character as "a fast-talking snake oil salesman and illusionist who flees a travelling circus and winds up whisked away in a hot air balloon by a tornado to Oz where he must face off against real magic and the sisters battling for control of the land."

The other witch roles also need to be filled, and names being thrown about include Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley and Rebecca Hall. 

The Return of Chucky. Child's Play reboot on the way.

We've gotten Jason, Freddy and Leatherface reboots. So why not Chucky?

Movieweb reports that the little homicidal mold of plastic will be returning to cinemas soon, now that MGM has cleared up some legal issues surrounding the character.

"The remake had been in development for several years, with a script already written by Don Mancini, who also wrote all the previous movies in the Chucky franchise," says the site. "The hold-up on the remake was apparently due to rights issues by MGM and Universal. MGM has the rights to the original Child's Play, while Universal retained rights to the sequels. Apparently, a deal has been made between the two studios."

Production reportedly will begin later this year, with Brad Dourif returning to voice Chucky. Which automatically makes the film sound like a sequel rather than a reboot, but MW says unconfirmed talk is that the picture will be "more of a reboot, with a darker tone and less comedic elements." 

Bourne Spinoff film. Director narrows down search for lead.

Universal and writer-director Tony Gilroy are deep into searching for the lead of their Bourne Identity spinoff film, with several young Hollywood types in the running.

Deadline reports that the actors up for The Bourne Legacy include Joel Edgerton (a.k.a. the young Uncle Owen), Dominic Cooper (The Devil's Double), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) and Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans). They'll all be screen-testing for the part.

"There could be another name or two (Logan Marshall-Green comes up as speculation)," says the site, while adding that "the choice could always come from an actor who doesn't test." That could be a Shia LaBeouf or Taylor Kitsch, both of whom apparently are also under consideration.

Sequels to the Spiderman reboot already in the works

So now we're getting sequels to superhero reboots. Don't act surprised -- you knew this was coming.

According to Heat Vision, Sony has hired James Vanderbilt to write the follow-up to the still-shooting The Amazing Spider-Man, which he also penned.

"Vanderbilt had a meeting with the Spider-Man filmmakers and studio execs yesterday outlining his take, getting a thumbs up, and will now begin writing," says the site. He worked on the Spider-Man 4 script before that project collapsed, at which point he segued into the reboot for Sony. "[Originally] he was chosen for his character-driven approach to the story rather than a focus on special effects and worked on an outline for a trio of films."

Though it was originally designed for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 (and beyond), it would seem that trio has morphed into a reboot trilogy.

Vanderbilt has also penned Zodiac and The Losers, and recently did a polish on the Total Recall remake.

The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled for a July 3, 2012 release. 

Clash of the Titans Sequel begins production. One of the main characters will not be returning.

The Clash of the Titans sequel has begun production this week and the plot for the film has also been revealed. Plus, one of the lead characters of the first film has been revealed to not be returning in the sequel.

The film, previously reported to be called Wrath of the Titans but simply called Clash of the Titans 2 in today's Warner Bros. press release, is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles). Sam Worthington of course is back as Perseus, but Gemma Arterton, who played Io in the first film, apparently will not be back. Which kind of makes sense anyway, since her character was originally meant to be killed before a new ending was tacked onto the first picture. 

Liam Neeson, Danny Huston and Ralph Fiennes are all returning to the cast, while Rosamund Pike joins the group as Andromeda (replacing Alexa Davalos from the original), Edgar Ramirez plays Ares, Toby Kebbell takes on Argenor and Bill Nighy is Hephaestus.
